To consider an application for Membership of the Standards Committee.

Submitted – a report by the Head of Function (Council Business)/Monitoring Officer in relation to the above.

The Head of Function (Council Business)/Monitoring Officer explained the statutory selection process for the appointment to the vacant seat on the Standards Committee.  A draft advertisement accompanied the report at Enclosure 1 to the report and a pack with information on the Code of Conduct, Schedule of Allowances and application form was presented at Enclosure 2 to the report.

The Panel made the following amendments to the wording of the advertisement :-

·      the appointment of an Independent Member to be for a minimum of 4 years and up to 8 years;

·      that an email address and contact name be included in the documentation pack;

·      the inclusion of the name of the Head of Function (Council Business)/Monitoring Officer be included in the English version at page 6 of the documentation.

The Head of Function (Council Business)/Monitoring Officer gave details of the cost of advertising the vacancy in the local newspapers.  The Panel decided to avoid additional expenditure, that a short advertisement of the vacancy be placed in the local newspapers with a link to the Council’s website for the full version.

It was RESOLVED :-

·      To approve the advertisement for the vacancy of an Independent Member of the Standards Committee, subject to the amendments as noted above;

·      That the advertisement be placed on the Council’s website, Facebook page and Twitter, together with a short advert only (in the first instance) in the two local newspapers;

·      To approve the application and advice at Enclosure 2;

·      That the date of the next meeting to draw a shortlist of applicants for interview be held on the 17^th November, 2017 at 2.00 p.m., in Committee Room 1.
